NYC Human Rights Law

Perhaps the simplest way to understand the problem is to recognize that there is not a single civil rights advocate in New York City who believes that the City Human Rights Commisison is doing its job.

In Fiscal Year 1991, the number of City-funded staff at the Commission was 152.  In the current Fiscal Year, that number is down to 14, lowest than the lowest year of the Guiliani Administration. Thus, current City-funded staffing represents a 90% reduction from FY91 levels.

The operational and reporting problems that were reported in the Center’s Crossroads report in 2003 remain unchanged (with the exception of the fact that, having thrown out thousands of cases at the start of Mayor Bloomberg’s first term, the Commission need not repeat that process each year).
